Quickly Switch Window Manager With Compiz Fusion Icon
Having compiz (ubuntu's rich desktop experience) activated does increase my desktop experiences as well as the usability. However, having it activated complicate stuff all the time, when it come to gaming.
I'm gamer and I admit it. This is why I envy windows user for having so much games. However, with the increasingly popular ubuntu desktop, linux games is increasing too. But, compiz doesn't play nice with games. Sometime it generate black screen, while some other time it generate weird window layout. Full screen game that doesn't do full screen, because panel is still on top of it, thanks to compiz.
We usually disable visual effect via appearance preferences. This, however comes with price if we have custom setting via CCSM (Compiz Config Setting Manager). Because, appearance preferences doesn't have a way to (when it comes to activating compiz) easily activating back to our custom setting. It only has None, Normal, Extra setting options.
But, don't worry. Thanks to Compiz Fusion Icon, we can now switch window manager easily. To do this, all you have to do is install fusion-icon package.
There are 2 way to install software.
- First, via command line by typing
sudo apt-get install fusion-icon- Or by using GUI tools, eg: synaptic, ubuntu software center.
After installed, all you have to do is, launch it via Application menu » System tools » Compiz Fusion Icon. Then, select what window manager you would like to use by right-clicking on it's icon on notification area.
