Wordpad Alternative For Linux

RTF, by far is the most useful format for writing notes. Well, what I really mean is some heavy notes that include some basic formatting like, bold, emphasize, underlining, custom size font, etc. On windows, you have the built in editor, wordpad. This editor is very simple in term of UI and feature completeness. But, that's what wordpad works damn well for writing heavy notes. But, If you work on linux, you can't easily find a good alternative that match wordpad's ease of use, features and UI layout.

Some query to google suggested that we could use abiword or openoffice.org Writer for RTF writing. Well, that's true, but, these application is way too overkill for writing simple notes. A bit more on google revealed that there's another application called ted. I tried it and yes, it's simple enough for writing notes. But again, after several hours using it, I got problem with how ted handle text selection. It's weird! It can't select text word by word even if we use CTRL+SHIFT. It always select at random length, Sometimes it select a single word, sometimes, multiple words at once, while some other times, it select multiple words and stop not at the and of word, but in the middle of it. I think this is because of ted is not a complete product and it's not even developed anymore. It's so sad:(, some one care to take the source and continue the development? because I find it quite simple and good for fast note taking.

Ok, now back on the quest to find a good and decent alternative for wordpad on linux. Several more google query and flipping pages of search result give me no better information. Suddenly I remembered a thing. In wine menu, there's notepad alternative that equal in term of UI and feature to it's brother in windows. This notepad is invoked with command wine notepad. I though, I would like to give a chance to this with wordpad. I type wine wordpad in console and ... voila! I have wordpad that mimic it's brother, YAY!
