Wordpress Plugins To Kill (almost) All SPAM

Well, Yes, almost all SPAM. Because I don’t know how to stop SPAM that is entered manually. The maximum I can to is throw it to akismet by marking it as SPAM.

Back to the list, the number on plugin you must have on your wordpress installation is NoSpamNX. NoSpamNX work by adding an invisible fields to comment form. Then, it will check whether this fields is filled or not. If this fields is filled, then, we can assured that this is SPAM comment being entered. Now, what happened if there is a manually entered SPAM? There is Akismet. It will check comments that get past through. Now, we’re good to face this comment SPAM! But, how do we face the Trackback SPAM? There is another plugin that could handle this type. Actually, Akismet is able to handle this too. But, what if akismet missed? There is a plugin that could check the validity of trackback called Simple Trackback Validation.

with this 3 plugins, I’m able to prevent SPAM to go past through to my database. Before I use these plugins, In a week, I could collect 50-500 SPAM. But, after I use it, In a week, I just receive 0-3 SPAM. Well, it’s actually marked as pending moderation, but I consider it’s SPAM, because the comment is not related to the post they commented on. Also, the URL is a bit weird. Most of it is entered manually and probably didn’t exist yet in Akismet database.

  • but still, when too many spam posted, it will eventually exhausted your server;s resources..
mysql too many connection problem perhaps
  • I have some IP black list to prevent that, I also implement WP-SuperCache for added performance boost.
  • When I deactivated simple-trackback-validation (STV) plugin, my internal ping/trackback didn't show up. It is already sent actually.

Then I got almost the same, spam problems, like yours.
First, I try math plugin. But that is not too usable, I think. :)
I decided to try nospamnx and STV by now. It works.
    Makasi Mas Bayu..

My spam and ping problem resolved. :)

    Glad it helped.
