DJVU File Extension

A couple days ago, when I visited a lot of websites, I found .djvu file extension. My browser doesn't support this kind of file extension, and there is a warning to install DJVU plug-ins if we want to see the image on DJVU format. Wow, it's new for me, I thought that web developers only use .jpeg and .gif image format so the browser don't have to install the plug-ins just to display the images.

Now, the question is, why File Extension DJVU still used by some of web developers?
After googling around I found that DJVU format uses lossy compression so we still get a good compression rate, often with a smaller image. Because of this, File Extension DJVU is quickly becoming a favorite format for journals, digital books, and manuals.

For viewing DJVU images, and maybe printing, exporting, text copying, and bookmarks, you can use WinDjView or MacDjView. If you have journals, digital books, or manuals that already created in a complete documents and want them converted to DJVU, a free web-based service called Any2Djvu Server can help you. So, be creative with File Extension DJVU.
