Split MP3 Files in Linux

Previously, I've write something about getting audio files from flv video using avidemux (written in Bahasa Indonesia). Sometimes, this file could have some unneeded beginning or ending audio that we would like to trim it. There's so many GUI application in Windows world. But, here, in linux environment, GUI selection of this tools is not available or rather limited (in term availability and functionality).

Several weeks ago, I found this little tools that allow me to trim unneeded audio and get only what I want. From the homepage it says:

Mp3Splt-project is a utility to split mp3 and ogg files selecting a begin and an end time position, without decoding.

Hmm... let's give it a try.

First, you have to download it. Select which file match your distribution and install it. You will need to download those 3 files (Libmp3splt, Mp3splt, and Mp3splt-gtk). After it's installed, now you can run it by executing mp3splt-gtk or your command prompt or select Mp3splt-gtk audio splitter from Application menu. Upon launced, you'll see this window.

At this part you can go ahead and choose which file you want to split. But, I suggest you choose where you want to save your splitted file(s).

Ok, back again to main interface. Select the file you want to split by clicking Browse button. Then, you can start the music to be able to add split point as the music play. Please select at least 2 split points.

Move to Splitpoints tab to see your currently selected split point. In this tab, you can decide what filename you want to your to be generated file(s). Feels good with your filename? good, lets generate it by clicking check mark button above the window!. It will generate the file at your selected output directory.

Try to play it with your favorite music player. You fill good with the result? no? hmm... lets get back to mp3split's Player tab. You can adjust your split point by dragging the green circle. Then you can hit again the check mark button!.

That's it, you can play around with it's settings and window to make you more familiar with it.
