Gnome-Do: A powerful, speedy, and sexy remote control for your GNOME Desktop
Been using it for quite a long time and the experience is great!. Gnome-do is a launcher for pretty much almost anything you want to do. From the site, It say gnome-do is inspired by Quicksilver and GNOME Launch Box. I myself don't know what this two things doing as I never use it. But, with gnome-do I almost never use Gnome's Main Menu. Why? you might ask. Well, because I just need to press SUPER+SPACE and type what application or action I want, hit enter and there, what I want is laid out on my screen. Give it a try and tell me what you think?
Here's some example of how this little beast speed up my morning boot up. Every morning at work I'm working on a couple of files that need to be cleanup. Here's the sequence of how I get ready to filter the file before using gnome-do:
- Open up Firefox via Laucher in panel for downloading the file from gmail
- Open up Opera via Laucher in panel for processing the file in office's PHPMyAdmin. I always open my office related site using Opera
- Open up Nautilus via Places menu in panel for preparing file, creating new result dir, etc
- Open up Geany via
ALT+F2Run window for preparing the script for filtering the data - Open up FileZilla via Launcher in panel for uploading the unfiltered file to filtering server
Imagine how many mouse move there compared to this one when I use gnome-do:
SUPER+SPACE, type fi, hitRETURNto open firefoxSUPER+SPACE, type fil, hitRETURNto open filezillaSUPER+SPACE, type op, hitRETURNto open operaSUPER+SPACE, type ~, hitRETURNto open nautilusSUPER+SPACE, type ge, hitRETURNto open geany
This, along with embedded VTE in geany (I'll talk later about it) have greatly save my life!.
